Today, our family witnessed a moment that will live in our hearts forever. Officer Christopher Moses Castillo, Class of 12/25, stood tall, proud, and ready to serve — completing one of the most demanding law‑enforcement academies in the nation. Watching him receive his badge at the LAPD Elysian Park Academy was more than a ceremony. It was the continuation of a legacy built on sacrifice, integrity, and love for this city.

Thirty‑four years ago, on May 29, 1992, I walked across that same stage in the aftermath of the Los Angeles Riots — the final class under Chief Daryl F. Gates. I remember the weight of that moment, the uncertainty, the responsibility. Today, I felt that same weight, but this time as a father watching his son step forward with courage, humility, and purpose.

Christopher, you didn’t just earn a badge.

You earned a place in a tradition that demands heart, grit, and unwavering commitment to justice. You earned the respect of your family, your department, and your community. And you honored the generations who came before you — including me.

Seeing you in uniform, ready to protect and serve, fills me with a pride I cannot fully put into words. You are prepared. You are capable. You are driven by service. And you carry the values that matter most: honor, compassion, integrity, and courage.

As you begin this journey, remember this:
